On Tuesday, ESPN’s Todd McShay released his latest mock draft, but it came with a bit of a twist. As opposed to making selections based on what he’s heard or expects, he makes three rounds of picks for each team based on what he’d do as their general manager.

For the New York Giants, McShay has them going with NC State defensive end Bradley Chubb at No. 2 overall before adding a running back, offensive tackle and linebacker.

Round 1 (2): Bradley Chubb, DE, NC StateRound 2 (34): Sony Michel, RB, GeorgiaRound 3 (66): Martinas Rankin, OT, Mississippi StateRound 3 (69): Uchenna Nwosu, LB, USC

If new head coach Pat Shurmur is truly committed to Eli Manning and thinks the team can compete now, then New York goes best player available instead of taking a QB here. It would be tough to pass on Barkley, but with Jason Pierre-Paul gone, pass rush is a big need. Chubb is a complete player and can start immediately. Michel would fit the glaring need at running back and could contribute in the passing game. Rankin needs more experience, but would upgrade the talent level on the offensive line. Nwosu would double down on pass-rushing help and could start as a situational rusher off the edge. (107) add

Michel, Rankin and Nwosu are relatively new names in Giants-related mock drafts, but the logic is sound.

Still, as McShay alludes, passing on Penn State running back Saquon Barkley, if he were available at No. 2, would be a tough call and one that would potentially haunt the team for years to come.

Needless to say, the Giants continue to find themselves in a very unique situation in Round 1 and have a plethora of options to consider.
